Why Morning Adhkar Matter
The morning adhkar (azkar al-sabah) are one of the most powerful daily practices a Muslim can establish. The Prophet ﷺ consistently recited these supplications between Fajr and sunrise, and encouraged his companions to do the same.
These aren’t just words to rush through. Each dhikr is a conversation with Allah — a moment of gratitude, protection, and remembrance before the day begins.
When to Recite
The morning adhkar should be recited after Fajr prayer until sunrise. Some scholars say they can be recited from the break of dawn (when Fajr time begins), and the latest they should be completed is by mid-morning (Duha time).
The best time is immediately after Fajr prayer, when you’re already in a state of worship.
The Complete Morning Adhkar
1. Ayat al-Kursi (Al-Baqarah 2:255)
Recite once. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi in the morning will be protected until the evening.”
Transliteration: Allahu la ilaha illa huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm…
2. Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas
Recite each three times. These three surahs together provide comprehensive protection.
3. The Master Supplication for Forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar)
Translation: “O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant…”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever recites this during the day with firm conviction and dies that day before evening, will be among the people of Paradise.”
4. Morning Protection Dua
Recite three times.
Translation: “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
5. SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar
Recite each 33 times, or recite “SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi” 100 times.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever says ‘SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi’ one hundred times in the morning and one hundred times in the evening, nobody will be able to bring anything better on the Day of Judgement except one who said the same or more.”
6. La ilaha illAllah
Recite once (or ten times for extra reward).
